Scientific Name: Lunella undulata

Not to be confused with the flower of the same name, Periwinkles have been harvested commercially by hand in Tasmania since the 1980s. They’re predominantly found on exposed reef and boulder habitat in shallow, temperate waters up to a depth of 20m. They are small, and can be time consuming to eat but they are a delicious treat. To eat them, steam them for 3-4 minutes and toss them with some melted butter. They are also a great addition to stir-fry. Alternatively, if you find them on your beach adventures, why not eat them fresh straight from the shell?
